Sooke is thrilled to have dance caller Craig Marcuk back for our Saturday Night Big Top Square Dance. He has been calling and organizing square dances in Victoria for six years and founded the Young Oldtime Music and Dance Association (YOMADA). He calls from the re-emerging tradition of square dances of the Pacific Northwest. No experience is needed; all dances are taught on the spot to live music. Craig has attended Three “Dare to be Square” calling workshops.  He has called twice at Seattle’s Tractor Tavern Square Dance and called at many festivals including The Islands Folk Music Festival (Duncan),  the Vancouver Island Music Festival (Courtney), the Hornby Island festival, Folklife in Seattle and the Oldtime Tidal Wave in Victoria. Also a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, Craig delivers lively energy, a strong voice, and superb timing. You’ll see him around the festival and he’ll be calling the dances on Saturday night to the driving rhythms of Wooly Bears.
