Country Squall takes its title from the wonderful EP released in 2015 by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Cluny Macpherson. The band features some of Victoria’s most talented acoustic musicians and are always a crowd favourite.

Macpherson writes about humidity, his hometown, globalization, tragedy, and his daughter. With heart-stopping lyrics (“sunlight ain’t dangerous enough/we need the rain to keep us tough”) and a high baritone described as an authentic bluegrass voice, Macpherson and Country Squall have made an important contribution to the Canadian folk canon.

Joining Macpherson (bass) at this year’s festival are Adam Cleland on guitar, Dan Weisenburger on guitar and mandolin and Miriam Sonstenes on fiddle.
